The Beach is Back
Recent tropical storm Alberto did significant damage to the dune at Suntide Island Beach Club. The dune was eroded back approximately 10 feet and as a result created a cliff to get down to the beach. Temporary steps were installed using sand bags, but provided little relief to guests to get down to the beach. To better serve our guests and protect the dune, the board of directors took action and brought in 20 truckloads of sand. As you can see by the before and after pictures, the beach is back. Supplementary sand will be brought in by the City of Sarasota later this year, after turtle season. In addition, there is an approved project by the Army Corp of Engineers to provide an extensive beach renourishment and stabilization plan for many years to come that will start in 2019.
